Hello and welcome. My name is Abdul Malik and I live in the UK. Currently I work in a library in England. I previously worked as News Editor of The Muslim Weekly. I studied theology at the University of Birmingham, graduating with honours in 1998. My teachers included an alumnus of Al-Azhar University in Egypt. While the main focus of my studies was Islam, I also chose to study modules on Judaism, Christianity and Hinduism.
As an Orthodox Muslim with a keen interest in UK and world politics, I feel that I can offer a perspective not usually found elsewhere. This blog will include articles coloured by the Islamic worldview, which I feel I can comment on due to my Islamic studies background. My experience as a journalist for a Muslim weekly gave me a grounding in a profession which is not usually respected by the general public. But as someone who tries to adhere to Islamic principles, I will strive to follow the Truth wherever it leads me. And I will try to avoid the pitfalls of gutter journalism, taking note of the advice of the Creator in the Qur’an:
“O believers, if an evildoer brings you any news, verify ˹it˺ so you do not harm people unknowingly, becoming regretful for what you have done” [49:6]
Please check out my other blog, which focuses on Islam as understood by the classical scholars.
And feel free to leave comments or ask questions.
